Chapter 06, Verse 31

श्रीभगवानुवाच:

सर्वभूतस्थितं यो मां भजत्येकत्वमास्थितः ।

सर्वथा वर्तमानोऽपि स योगी मयि वर्तते ॥ 6.31 ॥

Translation

            “Yogis in service are my vesture; they see me in themselves within all beings they find their freedom I always reside within them.”

Context of the Verse:

            This is a verse from Chapter 6: Dhyana Yoga (The Yoga of Meditation) where Lord Krishna goes on describing the characteristics of supreme Yogi. In the earlier verse (6.30) Krishna had aggrandised the Yogi that beholds Him in all beings and all beings in him never loses Him nor is ever lost to Him. And that includes the whole of 6.31 where Krishna emphasizes it throughout: “He who sees unity, O Arjuna, everyone in the Self and the Self in anyone; he never turns away from me.” It is an illustration of Upasana, the love and devotion for God taking place within while meditating.

  • Ekatvam (Oneness with All Beings): Only the true Yogi knows that God is present in every living being.

  • This teaching helps Arjuna to harmonize duty with Faith and convinces that Yoga is not a means of escape from life but it is the art of right action in divine consciousness.

Explanation:

            Krishna is present in the form of super soul (Paramatma) as Yogi should know it. They are one. This Point It is also very Important. An accomplished yogi, who has proficiency in the Astang Yoga process too can stretch themselves at the maximum up to eight or nine forms. God may multiply into countless forms.

            This is one of those expansions, Parmatma expansion where Krishna expands himself and he is situated in the hearts of all of us and thus he’s guiding us. Because of our desire we had to accept one body from nature and as a result it is His arrangement upon us. And Krishna within inspires us. In previous birth you desired some pleasures. Now you please have it. But he also guides what enjoyment is good and bad, but if you don’t listen then Krishna sanctions. Okay? My dears; you wanted to relish, now savour and when you suffer with it, then you will realize that I should have followed the Krishna advice which has given in Gita.

            Worships me, the Yogi who perceives I and the super soul within all features as one. He is a Supreme Soul within in my heart line who cares and knows it. He is Krishna, the supreme personality. Krishna consciousness kicks in coming to the top of the Yoga ladder.

Chapter 06, Verse 32

आत्मौपम्येन सर्वत्र समं पश्यति योऽर्जुन ।

सुखं वा यदि वा दुःखं स योगी परमो मतः ॥ 6.32 ॥

Translation

            “O Arjuna, He is a faultless Yogi whop, by virtue of equal vision, sees the very same equally in pleasure and pain with respect to his self.”

Context of the Verse:

            In the last of this (6.29–32) four-verse section Krishna detailed the attributes of ultimate Yogi.

  • Verse 29: The Yogi sees the Self in all and all beings in the Self.
  • Verse 30: The Yogi can see Krishna anything and anything in Krishna.
  • Verse 31: The Yogi is thus a worshipper of Me in spirit.
  • Verse 32: The Yogi becomes full of great glory, and true empathy follows naturally as he sees others joys and sorrows as his own.

  • Empathy (Atma-Aupamyena): The greatest Yogi knows our delight is his own as surely as our pain is a primary reflex.
  • Equal Vision (Sama-Darsana): Neither hatred nor love come to a man of equanimity and sameness in everything; without an equal vision toward friend or foe, good or evil, this is called justice. Meeting of Friend, Enemy and Stranger on the Battlefield.
  • Supreme Yoga: The pinnacle of yoga where you become capable of transcending your personal prejudice and extend love and compassion universally.
  • Experience the Oneness: Real spiritualism is not negativity, but compassion to any living creature.
  • Basis of Compassion and Nonviolence: This verse is typically the fundamental for global fraternity and sacrificial service.

Relevance to Arjuna:

  • Arjuna has to go through a Dharma-Sankat moment on the battlefield: fighting his loved ones.
  • Krishna counsels that the dearest Yogi is one who considers everyone as a part of Himself beyond bodily relations.
  • This helps Arjuna to act with impartiality and tolerance and as duty calls, instead of responding from hatred or sorrow.
  • It readies him to the cause without ill will, and in Dharma.

Explanation:

            One is able to realize that everyone is a spirit soul like me. This realization itself helps in recognizing the spiritual nature of all beings. We are seeing that he only avoids giving pain to others because he knows pain is bad. Basically, when someone cuts my hand, I experience the same pain sensation. Basically, why should I be so insensitive that just to satisfy my tongue, I harm other living beings the same way? Basically, people are getting the same high positions in society. As per the records, they are holding various degrees regarding their qualifications. These degrees are mentioned in their official name. These individuals are surely thought leaders, educators, or societal leaders. Moreover, they play crucial roles in shaping communities and guiding people. Further, basically, if people are harming other living beings, then the same basic common sense is missing, no? This does not require further education itself. We are seeing this is only basic sense. When somebody cuts my hand, I surely feel pain. Moreover, this physical injury directly causes immediate discomfort in my body. I cannot provide information about harming people. We are seeing that such requests are only meant for violence, which is not appropriate to discuss. My family members will feel bad if I am killed, and this sadness will further affect their daily lives. The loss itself will bring them great pain. Their family animals further possess emotions itself. These creatures also demonstrate feelings in their behaviour. Family members surely experience deep grief when they lose a loved one to death. Moreover, such loss creates lasting emotional pain that affects the entire family. Basically, what steps should I follow to achieve the same result? Basically, I am doing the same terrible things just to satisfy my taste buds. Basically, if this fundamental understanding is missing, then how can I expect to gain the same knowledge about life. Also, we cannot expect knowledge from people who harm other living beings and animals because they lack basic sanity itself. Such individuals need to develop further understanding of life.

            Regulation food very important. Moreover, proper food laws help prevent diseases and ensure quality standards in the market. Basically, the Yogi develops this understanding very easily because he knows what happiness and distress are the same. He actually works very hard to help other people with their problems. He definitely wants to reduce everyone’s suffering. As per your best efforts regarding keeping the body fit, it will not remain fit always. Diseases will further affect us, and we cannot keep ourselves free from illness itself. We are seeing that death will come only, and we will be taking another body in next life. Real welfare activities actually give spiritual knowledge to people. This definitely helps them understand life better. Moreover, therefore, after the Bhagavad Gita itself finishes, Krishna further explains. Krishna explains that Yogi is very dear to him, and we are seeing many other people are also dear to him, but the dearest person to God is only the one who shares this secret knowledge of Bhagavad Gita with others, as Krishna tells in the last chapter 18.

            If you want to become dear to God, this brings happiness in material and spiritual life itself. Further, such devotion leads to complete well-being. Basically, all spiritual knowledge is revealed to us and materially also we get the same nice care. We actually become dear to God through sincere devotion and righteous actions. Definitely following dharma and serving others with pure heart makes us beloved to the divine. Also, as per our understanding, we should spread this message to others regarding its importance. Basically, we are suffering because we don’t have this knowledge – the same lack of understanding is causing all our problems. This is surely the finest charitable work. Moreover, it represents the most beneficial form of social assistance.

Chapter 06, Verse 33

अर्जुन उवाच:

योऽयं योगस्त्वया प्रोक्तः साम्येन मधुसूदन ।

एतस्याहं न पश्यामि चञ्चलत्वात् स्थितिं स्थिराम् ॥ 6.33 ॥

Translation

            Arjuna said: The Yoga system described by Madhusudana appears impractical to him, as the mind is restless and unsteady. Such a system seems unendurable due to the mind’s unstable nature.

Context of the Verse:

            The verse surely appears in the context of spiritual discourse where divine teachings are being shared. Moreover, this passage addresses the fundamental relationship between human consciousness and ultimate reality. In Chapter 6, Krishna surely explains Dhyana Yoga, which focuses on meditation practices. Moreover, this chapter provides detailed guidance on how to achieve mental concentration and inner peace. Basically, he says discipline and keeping the mind steady are the same path to connect with the Self. After hearing this, we are seeing that Arjuna is expressing his difficulty only. Arjuna actually expresses his worry that keeping a balanced, meditative mind is definitely not practical because the mind is naturally restless. He finds it difficult to maintain such mental stability due to the mind’s wandering nature.

Also, we are seeing that this teaching is only relevant to Arjuna because he was facing a big fight and feeling confused about his duty as a warrior.

  • Arjuna surely represents the ordinary spiritual seeker who finds it difficult to control his restless mind. Moreover, his struggles reflect the common human challenge of achieving mental discipline and inner peace.
  • As per his warrior nature, he shows valour and discipline in battles, but regarding inner control, he finds it more difficult than fighting outside enemies.
  • Basically, Arjuna’s worry leads to Krishna’s next teaching where Krishna explains the same restless mind can be controlled through practice and detachment.

            Krishna surely recommended this Yoga system so that Arjuna could understand the teachings he initially found difficult to follow. Moreover, this systematic approach helped clarify the spiritual principles that Arjuna had rejected earlier. We should further learn from this when Arjuna himself could not follow. This teaching becomes important for all of us. Moreover, 5,000 years ago, young boys were trained as Brahmacharis in Gurukul system itself. This training further prepared them for higher learning and spiritual development. In the modern age, our bodies have surely become weak and our minds remain constantly disturbed. Moreover, this creates significant challenges for achieving mental and physical discipline through traditional practices. We are seeing so many temptations only. There are many attractions everywhere. Our senses surely remain uncontrolled and scattered. Moreover, we lack proper discipline to manage them effectively. The mind is actually disturbed, so it is definitely not possible to concentrate properly. When mental peace is lacking, focus becomes very difficult to achieve. Arjuna is surely conveying his message here. Moreover, he is telling something important through his words. It is surely not practical to implement. Moreover, this approach cannot work in real situations. Basically, it is similar to as being not even tough. Krishna is surely being informed about the matter. Moreover, the message is clearly reaching him through proper channels. Your system actually does not work in real situations. It definitely has too many problems to use properly. Further, what you have further told Madhusudana itself. The mind is obviously restless and unsteady by nature. Moreover, this restlessness makes it difficult to control and focus properly. Krishna actually teaches that controlling the mind is definitely necessary for spiritual progress. The mind must be disciplined through practice and detachment to achieve inner peace. We are seeing that when we control our mind first, only then we can control our senses with that controlled mind. Arjuna is surely telling that the mind is very difficult to control. Moreover, this control requires great effort and practice.
