Translation

“O Arjuna, son of Pritha, I will surely explain how you can know me completely without any doubt by practicing Yoga with full consciousness of me. Moreover, this knowledge comes when your mind is attached to me during your spiritual practice.”

Context of the Verse:

  • This verse basically opens Chapter 7, which is the same as Gyana-Vigyana Yoga or Yoga of Knowledge and Wisdom.
  • As per Chapter 6, Krishna concluded that the yogi who surrenders with devotion is the highest yogi. Regarding the types of yogis, Krishna declared the devoted surrendering yogi as supreme.
  • Now, he surely begins explaining the path of knowing God and achieving realization. Moreover, this lays the foundation for deeper understanding of His divine nature.

Key Teachings in This Verse:

  • Attachment to Krishna (Asakti): Basically, real Yoga starts when you fix your mind on God with love. It’s the same as making your thoughts focus completely on the Lord.
  • Dependence on God (mat-asrayah): Moreover, we are seeing that spiritual growth needs taking shelter in God only, not depending on our own power alone.
  • Union of Devotion & Knowledge: Basically, Yoga is not just meditation but the same union of bhakti (devotion) and gyana (knowledge) working together.
  • Complete Understanding: Through devotion and surrender, one can know Krishna completely and not partially. This practice itself leads to further understanding of Krishna’s true nature.
  • Certainty (Asamsayam): As per the understanding, this knowledge will give complete certainty regarding truth and faith.

Relevance to Arjuna:

  • Arjuna is confused about what is right duty and the same doubts about life’s real purpose.
  • Krishna tells Arjuna that if he shows devotion and depends on Him, he will get complete knowledge about the Supreme Reality without any doubts – it’s the same as getting perfect understanding.
  • This verse surely prepares Arjuna to receive higher knowledge about God’s material and spiritual energies. Moreover, it encourages him to understand these divine powers more deeply.

Explanation:

We read before Lord Krishna gave a hint to Arjuna. What is that science which you have to know in order to become out of clutches of birth and death, do you? And – then the supreme goal of all spiritualists. Otherwise, what is the subject matter of God? And that is the topic Lord Krishna spoke about.

He further related, I was transcendently born and my pastimes are transcendental. They are divine. They do not abide by the laws of this nature. But someone who can decipher the science behind my birth and my activities. Otherwise, after quitting this body He does not accept any more such inferior material bodies. But He returns to me and He lives His eternal spiritual life in His spiritual figure.

But the question is how to understand Krishna’s birth and activities, Krishna’s science. We are working, we have people to supervise, everyone is not equal; there are so many departments to manage. Within each department there are so many branches to run etc. Why do you think Krishna did not give us this initiation in the Gita? Because He had just given explanations of some processes and different Yoga ladders, karma Yoga, jnana Yoga, dhyana Yoga, but living entity can only come to comprehend about Krishna otherwise. Therefore, Lord Krishna is explaining now, now listen to how you can know me without a doubt. Others may always be doubtful. They will not know what to think. But if you accept this process, then all doubts about God’s existence, His activities will be clear. Samagram means in completion. So, what is the process? These words are very important. Mind clinging to me in complete awareness of me. And you being conscious of me, offer your mind and understanding unto me; serving me, thou shalt come unto me in very deed. This is the only means of knowing Krishna, in full. Therefore, the great son of Maharishi Vedvyas, author of Mahabharat is Bhagavad Gita he addressed this beautiful verse that to know absolute truth.
