Translation

“Krishna says, “Such a person who knows the spiritual nature of my appearance and activities, when he leaves his body, does not take birth from this world, but surely such a person comes to Me, O Arjuna?”

Context of the Verse:

In the fourth chapter of the Bhagavad Gita (entitled Gyana Yoga – The Yoga of Knowledge), Lord Krishna explains His divine nature and the nature of His Avataras (incarnations) and His actions. He explains that His birth and activities are not mundane like those of other ordinary souls and are divine (Divyam).

Krishna says that the people who accept His divine incarnation, and divine play (Leela), by knowing and not merely believing, are free from the cycle of life and death (Samsara) and achieve Him (Moksha ).

This verse immediately follows Krishna’s statement of why He incarnates (4.7–4.8): to protect the righteous, annihilate the wicked, and re-institute Dharma.

Key Teachings in This Verse:

  • Divine Nature of Krishna: Krishna’s birth and acts are both divine and not material.
  • The Value of Right Knowledge: Knowledge of “Krishna Tattvatah” (knowledge of the absolute truth) leads to Mukti (Salvation).
  • Liberation from Birth: He who truly knows Krishna is not born again.
  • Up with the Divinity: This person goes up to Krishna (spiritual mate, Moksha ).
  • Bhakti & Gyana Conflated: Conceptualising knowledge of God as a pre-requisite for liberation is conflated with both devotion and knowledge.

Relevance to Arjuna:

Krishna is consoling and encouraging Arjuna, who is terrified to fight and is thinking of his obligation as a warrior, that Krishna – in truth – resolute of enemies – can do what he can. Krishna is reminding that a mortal who knows the divine plan for the universe and is not bound by it, duty, and its considerations of right and wrong, would find the bond of fear broken. Through appreciating Krishna’s divinity, there can be a release of doubt, and Arjuna can act confidently and with spiritual vision. This verse is a lead-up to help Arjuna appreciate the real dharma and for withdrawing from finite physical existence.

Explanation:

So, Divya means not of this world. As we discussed earlier, Krishna does not appear through mundane biological phenomena. But he comes by an out-of-this-world mechanism that is Divya. We are under the influence of Rajo Guna, Tamo Guna and Sattva Guna, and act accordingly.

It is like this: there are three energies and Krsna is controlling everything we do in this material world, but Krsna is not controlled by the three energies. Krishna is Divya, meaning Transcendental, and not within the three energies; He is fully spiritual. Thus, Krishna does not work under the action and reaction of the material modes of nature. Everything that Krishna does is pure spiritual energy. Although a man may be scientifically advanced, he may not know the process of birth and death, but after leaving this body, there is no birth.

Does this mean it is suicidal to learn the science of Krishna’s birth and pastimes? I will no longer be able to enjoy. No, Krsna says, I don’t take any more birth, but he is coming to me, come live with me. This spirit soul is staying in this body; it takes a certain type of shape, encasement all over the body. It’s like when we travel to some other planet where life is unsupportable for us. So now we get a space suit. Similarly, the living entity, being transcendental to material existence, is never born, just as Christ, in the sense addressed here. If it is in the spiritual sky and fruitive workers, it can have this external dress, but it cannot acquire the spiritual atmosphere of Vaikuntha. And when it is set on the spiritual platform, the spiritual – I mean in the spiritual abode where Krsna lives, then as it is a spiritual form, there is no question of dressing from the external; it is automatically manifested.

So, Krishna says, don’t think that you have to die. Your senses will all be present. You can watch, you can speak, you can run, you can laugh. All these things happen in your spiritual body, which you grow, if you visit me.

So, the next question is, how can we know, or let me know? And I’ve learned so much science. Let me understand this Divya science, Transcendental science also, so that I will not have to take this birth and death again to enjoy, but I can enjoy my permanent life with Krishna. So, how can we do that? Krishna explains next.

Translation

“Liberated from attachment, fear, and anger, and absorbed in Me,  many, many have attained to My nature.”

Context of the Verse:

This verse is an extension of 4.9, in which Krishna has previously described the people who know His divinity. He now provides evidence from history, that many have renounced their families, driven by affection, or by their pursuit of knowledge, and have thus attained the culmination of spiritual enlightenment.

Krishna emphasizes the path of spiritual purification, detachment from worldly passions or emotional excitements, and the intense absorption in the Divine (Manmayah) and absolute submission (Upasritah).

These seekers have cleansed themselves through the austerity of knowledge (Gyana-Tapasa) the discipline of seeking and discriminating, and the inner discipline of contemplation and discernment.

Key Teachings in This Verse:

  • Abstinence of Raga, Bhaya and Krodha: These forms of attachment, fear, and anger are among the greatest barriers to Moksa.
  • Immersion into the Godhead: One must become the “Man-Maya“, i.e., filled with Me, for spiritual advancement.
  • Surrender is essential: He who surrenders unto Krishna (Mam Upasritah) attains the divine status.
  • Knowledge as austerity: The disciplined pursuit of knowledge – Gyana-Tapasa – purifies the soul.
  • Achieving Krishna’s nature: The end goal is to achieve Krishna’s God-like status (Mad-Bhavam Agatah).

Relevance to Arjuna:

  • This verse is intended to motivate Arjuna, to convince him that freedom is accessible to common people as well, and that ascetics and a few rare individuals are not the only ones who can attain it.
  • Urges Arjuna to conquer his own fears, desires, and passions, which are obstructing his judgment on the battlefield.
  • Today’s Verse reinforces the theme that surrender to Krishna and the pursuit of spiritual knowledge and renunciation will yield the highest goal.

Explanation:

Bhavam means nature; Swabhaw means one’s own nature, and Madbhavam means Krishna’s nature. Krishna’s nature is Satchidananda, so you get the body of Krishna. Full of all fullness, full of eternity. There is no dying in a state of pleasure. We achieve a body that is eternal, omniscient, and blissful. And Madbhavam is Krishna’s eternal abode, which is similar to that of Krishna. Which is similar to that of Krishna. Which is eternal, indestructible, of the nature of knowledge and happiness. We reach the spiritual side. We get a body like Krishna, and that is the perfection of spiritual life. Then how can Krishna be achieved, a place or love of Krishna? It is one and the same thing. And these people who developed this very strong love for Krishna, they moved into Krishna’s abode.

So, how is this platform arrived at? Krishna’s planet or Krishna’s love?

We are too attached to the material world and within this attachment, as a child, suppose we are very much attached to playing sports, playing games, then he doesn’t like studies. If he is so interested in virtual reality, he will be less interested in reality. Similarly, if we are too much tied up with this material world, then you cannot expect that we can take an interest in spiritual life. One has to attain freedom from the material attachment, Raga. So, there are some old men who are disgusted with material life. After trying and trying to enjoy them, they then know only frustration. And, he can describe guys who work round the clock as successful, even if they are not. But that success is not enough for him. Then they are afraid of this material world. And then they don’t want to keep going. They want Moksha . Moksha  means they want to become one with the spiritual energy of Krishna. Therefore, one has to get rid of fear as well, if one has to go to Krishna. So, if you want to enter into the energy of Krishna or Krishna’s body, then Krishna will come. If you accept that and okay, you come and settle as a tiny spark in that spiritual energy. But we won’t settle for that. As we are a part and parcel of Krishna, and the children of Krishna. We are not different from Krishna. Because we have a tendency to enjoy our senses.

But we are truly enjoying life in this material world. Example in the Vedas furnished us, Tho’ let a man by sickness he oppresses. Now if you should tell anybody who is sick, to eat food, he will vomit. A worker will not eat what his stomach refuses to digest. Similarly, if you tell a sick man to go and play football, he will be unable to play. He cannot even walk. He is always in the bed. Similarly, if you tell a sick man to go and play football, he will be unable to play. We will go climbing, we will play sporting, and we will eat such nice things. Running around for him is a painful activity, and he cannot do it. “Eating is a lot better, but he can still puke it out. Then, no, I don’t want to be fit. I have to eat. It is a wretched thing to eat in sickness, but it is a very Savory thing to eat in a healthy life. Life is also not bad, but being in the material world is full of frustrations, dissatisfaction, and anxieties.

But those who do not know the spiritual kingdom, God’s kingdom, think that this material world is everything. Birth and death occur everywhere. It’s just like being born in Hiroshima or Nagasaki. There is so much nuclear radiation. Everybody would be born disabled, and some people would be born sick. If you think that birth now is disease, loss. I would rather be dead, “no, you were born in the wrong place. So, we should not believe that all the planets are having life here as we are having on this planet. Firstly, there are many planets where the standard of living is higher than the earth planet. And there are planets where life itself is eternal; it looks like there is no problem at all.

So, we should not crave merging into Brahma Jyoti or Moksha . When you are spiritual, you are beyond Moksha . Moksha  is release, to just come out of jail. “But if someone doesn’t go and see his family, and meet with them, and start a positive life, so a person might feel that in jail, I have at least a few friends; let me go back again to the jail. Moksha will not satisfy us. Service of Krishna in bhakti. Moksha is significant. And to the worshipers, it is Mukti with folded hands. Please engage me in your service, although a Bhakta, a devotee, is liberated. “For whatever disturbances there may be of this material energy, He is not at all disturbed. Mukti is always at hand, with folded hands. Please accept me in your service, but a devotee does not bother about how he should be free?”

So no material attachment is one condition, there should not be that any Personality Existence. And that one should not have one’s anger recolonised as well. The theories are confusing as hell for some people. What’s right, this philosophy is right and that philosophy is right? It’s one that tells world is coming from a human. This philosophy is revealing, world is emerging out of energy. This is what incest philosophy is saying to XYZ and they are so f_c_ing confused. They say nobody knows nothing and everything is zero, everything is null. There’s no point, there’s no controllers.” These sorts of people can or they become widest or these types of people they resort to intoxicating, and they become very Tamsic?

So, nobody had better do any of these things. One should not become materialist. One should eschew fear of the spiritual life; one should eschew anger born of ignorance in setting up what to one is the factual of life. When the human being is devoid of Raga, Bhaya and Krodha. Then knowledge can be grasped. Then, how does a person get free from this?

By taking shelter of Krishna. So, everyone who is fully absorbed in Krishna, when one takes refuge in Him, then one is purified by knowledge and austerity. Then one is purified by knowledge and austerity. When one has knowledge, what is the purpose of this life? And then a person automatically bears all the pain, which is referred to as Tapasya  . Tapasya   is what human beings are even meant for. The Bible talks about willingly enduring pains.

“For any material success also, we should have that Tapasya  . Willingness to suffer voluntarily is a big thing. For scientific progress, discomfort must necessarily lead to an increase in the wisdom of the spiritual life. So, when a person knows something with the mind, and they do Tapasya  . When one is completely absorbed in Krishna and takes shelter of Krishna, then he becomes liberated from Raga, Bhaya, and Krodha. Then they can understand the science of birth or the science of the activities of Krishna, and they can enter into where Krishna is.”
